Making  Reusable

Lines and Scallops

This tutorial assumes you know the basic PSP tools.
Mainly the selection tool and the drop shadow.

Start with a 1000 X 800 pixel image
Use the selection tool to draw a
thin long box. Flood fill with any color.

Add a layer.

Delete the first layer.
You will have the outline only on layer 2.
 Add a drop shadow.
select none
( to get rid of the marching ants)
You need to zoom in and
erase the slight shadow line

And remove the end shadow that's
at  the top and bottom

here is your line.

Right click on layer 2
on the Layer Palette to
Duplicate it three times

Zoom in.
Use the move tool to separate the lines.
use the transparent background
blocks as spacing guides.

Arrange to your liking.
Merge the layers

Crop the lines cutting off the bottom and top.
You do this because you want nice even lines.
Save this as a
.PSP file or tube.

so it keeps a transparent background.

Open another blank image.
1024 X 300 (or as you want)
Copy & Paste the new lines to it.

For fun, duplicate the lines, mirror the copy.
move the copy to the left leave a space in the middle.

Fill with a color on layer one.
 Instant pedestals!
Even more Fun?
merge all but layer one.
Use the selection tool and enclose as below.

Invert the selection!
Click on layer one.
then -- Image, Effects, texture.

All but the pedestals will have a texture.
Add a tube to the middle of the pedestals.
Crop and save your new background as .jpg.

WAIT!
click the back arrow (UNDO)
undo all but the lines.
add a new color, and/or texture.

Add a tube and crop.
You crop to get a nice even fill pattern.

Here it is with one line set only.

Now start over with a 800x800 image.
Let make a scallop!
Start with the selection tool.
Circle. fill with a color.

Zoom in close.   Move the circle so it's
even on the background as shown below.
Use the rectangle selection to
select half of the circle.
hold the CTRL down and press X to cut half away.

Duplicate the half 4 times. Move them in a row as shown.

Merge, duplicate, move in place, merge again.
now you have a long line of scallops.
Use the wand to select the scallops,
selections, invert so the marching ants are
around them. Add a new layer.
Delete layer one.
Add a shadow to the transparent layer.

It should look like this.

Zoom in close and crop right
in the middle of the scallops
as shown.
save in PSP format or as a tube.

Here the scallops have been
duplicated and mirrored.
Neat effect.

Here with a pattern background.
And solid filled scallops.

A bevel was added inside.

And a tube.

Here a mirrored scallop but
the scallops facing each other.

The effects made this way are endless
and they can be saved as tubes too!
Buttons, lines, scallops.....most anything!
